Higher education should become a high quality education resulting in the development of a whole personality. As education shapes human life and the type of Society in which we live, it becomes an investment to improve the quality of life for everyone in the nation. Kathmandu University is being developed with these thoughts in mind and with the mission to :

• Promote all-round development of students’ abilities and personalities.
• Develop an awareness of the role of science and its application in the understanding of problems of contemporary society.
• Extend and dissemination knowledge and to foster its application.
• Establish a community of scholars, students and staff, in which understanding and wisdom can grow and flourish.

Careful thought has been given to the needs of Nepal in developing curricula for all the different programs offered by the university. Many experts in the fields of education and business have contributed significantly during the curriculum development process. In addition, collaborative support was provided by the Birla Institute of Technology and Science (BITS) Pilani, India; and the Norwegian University of Science and Technology, Norway in designing the programs offered by the Schools of Science and Engineering. Similarly, Manipal Academy of Higher Education (MAHE) supported in preparing the courses of studies in medicine. The contributions made by these three institutes have helped to ensure that the programs offered are consistent and comparable to similar courses offered internationally.
