Dear KU Graduates
Thank you very much for your kind cooperation in providing your database regarding current status. Based on the information we received from you, more than 70 percent of KU graduates got job within five months of their graduation, and 10 percent went for higher education. This is an achievement for KU. Just for your information, our survey indicates that most of the university graduates are placed in employments. Congratulations to all of you!
After the follow-up study of KU graduates, we have come to the conclusion that there is a need of alumni forum where the graduates can suggest for the betterment of their own community as well as the university. Most of the graduates appeared much enthusiastic to know about the university's development and activities and to have a common forum to meet fellow alumni. It is also observed that more than 80 percent of the graduates seemed very satisfied with the education that they have had in KU. Nevertheless, the university wants to do more for the indigent but highly qualified students. It is also looking for avenues to seek placements for its graduates and enhance industry-university interface. We believe that a good interaction with the industry will lead to better knowledge among the students and it will provide impact on the career development of the student as well as economic development of the country. We are continuously working on various aspects of university development and our effort in the last decade to enhance the academic qualities of our faculty development has started bearing fruits. We are focusing on need-based research and our faculties have placed their research outcome in various prestigious international journals.
Being the graduates of the university, you all are well aware of the fact that most of the development works of the university is undertaken primarily with the help of the donors. Till date the university has the property worth rupees 500 million, which was generated through donors, local municipalities, students, affiliated colleges, and government.
Dear Graduates
As the government funding on higher education is dropping every year (contribution to KU has been dropping from 11 percent to eight percent of the total KU budget), the small support given by the government to us has also shrunk creating some impact on our mission to keep up the education level. We have, in the past, covered a large amount of the operating expenses of the university through tuitions and the fees collected from the affiliated colleges.
In order to maintain high demands for academic excellence, and at the same time, provide more scholarships to underprivileged, KU needs more support from the private sector and the graduates like you! However, this needs a concerted effort by the dedicated people, you and your colleagues, who have shown love and given invaluable support to this university. It is a university in the making and a university that can deliver...
We have had some informal meetings with some of our graduates and have come to the conclusion that the concerted effort can be brought about by the graduates themselves. KU is YOUR university and YOU are KU's ambassadors around the world. Therefore, as YOU are capable and are playing important role from YOUR places, YOU should be given the mantle-in the form of a forum. Hence, we feel that it is high time to launch the
Kathmandu University Alumni Association (KUAA).
We have seen that university and alumni have nourished and strengthened each other everywhere. Graduates feel that the fame of their universities accord them good market value which in turn is beneficial to the universities as well. With this faith they make a valuable contribution to the university.
What role our graduates can play?
We are planning to call a meeting of graduates soon. You can voice your support in many ways. First we need to formalize the forum. If you want to share your creativity, innovation, and energy for the institutionalization of the Alumni Forum, you are the one we are looking for.
Well, you do not need to be silent until then... any help in this regard would be highly appreciated either providing direct support or seek support from other agencies in various areas - like job placements for your fellow junior graduates, research in various areas, equipment and their replacements, library acquisitions, scholarship, guest lecturing and other development funds. Together, we can also think of some social work for the educational development of the remote areas of Nepal.
All we need is YOUR participation to contribute towards the continuous growth of the university and support the University's mission for a better tomorrow. Please consider supporting on KU's development and to show that YOU CARE and SUPPORT KU's effort for excellence.
