Mr. Amatya for the Prestigious "International Mondialogo Engineering
Awards"- Berlin |

| KU offers
heartily congratulations to Mr. Sushim Man Amatya, Graduates of
Mechanical Engineering batch 1998-2002, Kathmandu University, for
receiving "Mondialogo Engineering Award 2005". He has
received $18000 as an award.
United Nations Cultural Program UNESCO and German
Car Producer Daimler Chrysler have been organizing this award function
yearly. The main purpose of this award function is to make interaction
between developed and developing countries. |

The topic of his presentation was "Lightening Nepali Village",
a new electricity alternative program for rural area development. According
to him, within the expenses of NRs. 2000, 7-watt of bulb can be lightened
with the help of thermoelectric generator
Details of the
Award
On the evening of 30 May 2005 in Berlin, Germany, DaimlerChrysler and UNESCO
presented the Mondialogo Engineering Award with a total of 300,000 euros
in prize money. An international jury awarded the prizes to the 21 best
project teams from 28 countries. The international jury assessed project
ideas for sustainability, feasibility and quality of intercultural dialogue
within the project group. More than 1,700 young engineers and students from
79 nations registered for the contest, forming 412 international teams.
In this unique worldwide contest, international project
teams have worked together over the past year to produce engineering proposals
to reduce poverty and promote sustainable development in developing countries.
Among the 412 teams from around the world, 40 best projects
were nominated by the jury and among those 40 projects there were three
projects from Nepal that contended for the finals.
And among those 40 finalists two projects from Nepal
were declared as the best projects and the winners of the International
Mondialogo Engineering Award. Last but not least is Mr. Sushim Man Amatya,
KU graduate is the one among those two Nepalese who received the award.
