Collaboration with School of Arts (SOA):
The collaboration was done with School of Arts to conduct different community activities in our
targeted areas. Different activities by community development students were conducted in the
Langtang and Tamakoshi region (For details, refer to case study part).
Establishment of Kathmandu University Business Incubation Center (KUBIC):
Kathmandu University has established a Business Incubation Centre (KUBIC) which will
support students with great potential ideas turn into a market feasible business. KUBIC is
financially supported by Community Education Project (CEP) under the budget heading of
community business development and incubation.
More than 50 Community Based Projects:
Around 50 community based projects were implemented in different outreach centers. The
projects were of different varieties and conducted by different interdisciplinary students.
Students mobilized were from different disciplines (science, engineering and arts). Basically
pharmacy, environment and biotech students were from School of Science, Mechanical, Civil,
Electrical, Geomatics and Computer students were from School of Engineering and similarly
community development students were from school of arts. The projects were conducted in
different regions of Langtang (Syaphrubesi, Dhunche and Ghatlang). Tamakoshi (Singati,
Charikot, Manthali) and different outreach centers of Dhulikhel hospital (Melamchi, Salambu,
Dapcha and Manekharka).
Workshop and Seminar:
Seminar was conducted in which School of Science and Engineering students presented their
proposed community programs in different regions before the visit. School of arts students were
also invited as an audience to observe their ideas and provide feedback for the enhancement.
Around 120 students were from Science and Engineering and around 30 students were from
School of Arts, who provided feedback from the community perspective. For example, how the
targeted different activities have direct impact in different communities and how it is going to
enhance the lifestyle of community people?
CEP also conducted an interaction program at the end of the year in December. Different
supervisors who were involved in several community projects were invited. The program
objective was to get feedback from different supervisors on the overall activity of the project.
Supervisors thanked the CEP for providing them and students to work in different communities.
Besides that, the feedback was focused on several issues like: sustainability of the project and
allocating appropriate time slot for the mobilization of students.
Expansion of Community Outreach Centers:
In the year 2014, CEP expanded its targeted region to some of the outreach centers of Dhulikhel
hospital. The expansion was done basically to increase the community activities to some other
parts of the country and this step was very successful as we were able to conduct several
community activities in those regions too.
