A day symposium organized

One day Symposium on Environmental Assessment (EA): Trends, challenges, Prospects and Opportunities was organized by the Department of Environmental Science and Engineering, Kathmandu University, Dhulikhel on December 23, 2012 at CV Raman Auditorium. On the occasion, Dr. Sanjay Nath Khanal, Professor of Environmental Science and Engineering (DESE) delivered opening remarks. The relevancy of the symposium was highlighted by Dr. Nawa Raj Khatiwada, Program Co-ordinator and faculty of DESE. Dr. Bhadra Man Tuladhar, Registrar of Kathmandu University was also present during the opening session.
Dr. David Green, Mr. Bhai Raja Manandhar and Mr. Surya Man Shakya presented papers on different issues. The papers are available for download.

International Symposium on Mountain Resource Management in a Changing Environment organized.

The Aquatic Ecology Centre, Kathmandu University, and Institute of Forestry, Tribhuvan University in collaboration with the Department of International Environment and Development Studies (Noragric), University of Life Sciences, Norway, successfully organized the symposium on “Mountain Resource Management in a Changing Environment” at Park Village Resort, Budhanilkantha, Kathmandu, Nepal, from May 29-31, 2012. Applicatin call for M. Sc. Environment and Natural Resources, M. S. by Research in Glaciology, and Pre-M. Sc. bridge coures programs. (Published 2nd August, 2011)

ELIGIBILITY FOR ADMISSION INTO M. Sc./Pre-M. Sc.:
Students who have completed 4 years undergraduate programs in Environmental Science, Agriculture, Forestry, or other related field of study with minimum 2.5 CGPA or 50% or more in aggregate marks are eligible to apply. Fresh graduates from 3-year undergraduate programs will be required to take a 1-year pre-M.Sc. bridge course beginning in August 2011. Applications for the Pre-M.Sc. bridge course can be also submitted during the period specified below.

ELIGIBILITY FOR ADMISSION INTO M. S. by Research in Glaciology:
This program is offered in collaboration with ICIMOD and funded by the Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Students having completed a 4-year Bachelor’s degree in Hydrology, Meteorology, Geosciences, Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering or Civil Engineering with minimum 2.5 CGPA or 50% or more in aggregate marks are eligible to apply. Priority will be given to qualified female candidates, marginalized groups and candidates with sound health and high altitude field work experience.

SUBMISSION OF APPLICATIONS:
Application forms are available at the administration office, School of Science, Block 06, Dhulikhel, Kavre, or on-line at the Kathmandu University, School of Science, Department of Environmental Science & Engineering website (Graduate Application Form). Submit completed application form and application fee of Rs. 800 along with photocopies of previous academic and citizenship certificates to the department office at Dhulikhel, Kavre.
Last date of submission of application is 25th August 2011.
Only short listed candidates will be informed to appear for interview on Friday, 26th August 2011. Orientation and classes will commence from Sunday, 28th August, 2011.

International Conference on ECOREC – Ecosystem Responses to Environmental Change

Aquatic Ecology Centre on behalf of the Kathmandu University (KU) invites the scientific community to the "International Conference on ECOREC – Ecosystem Responses to Environmental Change to be held from November 13-17, 2010 in Nepal. The main purpose of this conference is to address the issues of recent environmental changes in soil, water, forests, air and climate. Biological assessment is gaining recognition as a practical, cost-efficient and effective approach for tracking environmental change.
