Dr. Rijan Bhakta Kayastha, Assistant Professor of the Department of Environmental Science and Engineering, School of Science has participated in an International Symposium on the "Combating Desertification and Adaptation Strategies for Climate Change in Asian Countries" held on 9 June 2009 at Korea University, Seoul, South Korea. Dr. Kayastha has given a talk on the Impact of Climate Change on Water Resources in Nepal.
He has also participated in a meeting on 10 June 2009 which was organized by the symposium organizers for effective camping for a side event on environmental and climate change problems faced by Asia-Pacific countries envisaged by Korea University in the coming United Nations Climate Conference-COP15 Copenhagen, 7-18 December 2009.

June 6, 2009. The first ever ‘Kathmandu University Pharmacists’ Reunion’, a reunion of all the pharmacy graduates of Kathmandu University, was held at DECC, United World Trade Centre, Tripureshwor, Kathmandu. Organized by the Pharmacy Alumni Batch of 2004 (11th Batch), the event was graced by the presence of Dr. Bhadra Man Tuladhar (Registrar, KU), Dr. Sita Ram Adhikari (Senior Advisor, KU) and Dr. Panna Thapa (Dean-SOS & HOD-Department of Pharmacy , KU) as guests of honor.
The reunion was successful in bringing together the products of Kathmandu University, Department of Pharmacy in a common platform and led the way to friendly socializing and intermingling between the pharmacy graduates. The event reunited the batches, batch mates and teachers in a congenial interactive platform to help reminisce, re-live and relish their unforgettable memories of KU.
A talk program was also held during the event to elucidate the role of pharmacists in different fields of work. Guest speakers representing various specialized technical sectors spoke on their respective fields of expertise. The guest speakers in the program were: Dr. Panna Thapa (Academic sector), Mr. Jaya Bir Karmacharya (Industrial sector), Mr. Babu Ram Humagain (Hospital sector), Mr. Gorkha Bahadur DC (Government/Regulatory sector), Mr. Hasan Bajracharya (NGO/INGO projects), Mr. Deepak Pokhrel (IT sector) and Mr. Ganesh Maharjan (Community Pharmacy sector).
The ‘Kathmandu University Pharmacists’ Reunion’ Program was well-received and appreciated by all. More of such programs need to be organized in the future to bring together the alumni, faculty and students of Kathmandu University to celebrate their ever-blazing KU spirit.

Kathmandu University School of
Engineering (KUSE) and the NGO Love Green Nepal (LGN) jointly organized a
special tree plantation program to mark the World Environment Day (WED) on June
5th 2009, which was observed globally with the slogan - Your planet needs you! Unite to
combat climate change. The tree plantation program was inaugurated jointly by the Vice
Chancellor of Kathmandu University Prof.Dr. Suresh Raj Sharma, Dean of School of Engineering
Prof. Dr. Bhola Thapa and LGN President Ms. Amira Dali. The tree plantation program was participated by KU Officials and
students and LGN members, staff and girl students receiving scholarship from
Nepal Educational Scholarship Fund under LGN. A total of 101 tree seedlings
were planted in the newly constructed Ingehansgon
Building ( Block 8 )of School of Engineering premises. The tree species
planted were: Ginkgo biloba, Cinnamomum
glaucescens, Michelia champaca, Prunus cerasoides; Psidium guajava, Cinnamomum
camphora, Fraxinus floribunda, etc.
The tree plantation program was expected to contribute to developing greenery and maintaining natural environment in the University premises. The tree plantation program was coordinated by Associate Professor and Head of Mechanical Engineering Department Dr. Bim Prasad Shrestha and LGN Executive Director Mr. G. K. Sangat.
