Dr. Kayastha also invited to the Expert Meeting on “State of Tropospheric Temperature, Pollution, Snow, Melting Glaciers and Potential Impact on Monsoon and High Altitude Vegetation in the Himalayas-Tibetan Plateau” 28-29 December 2009, Teri University, New Delhi, India. The workshop was sponsored by the UNEP and conducted by the Institute of Green Economy in collaboration with Teri University and Sharada University, India. Dr. Kayastha gave a talk on the “Changing Climate over Nepalese Himalayas and Impact on Glaciers.”
The workshop participants are of the opinion that the IPCC conclusion that the Himalayan glaciers could melt by 2035 is not based on scientific studies. The participants, however, wanted to emphasize that this does not, in any way, reduce the need for mitigation of, and adaptation to, climate change that has been initiated by the international community.
