Thai Delegates at Kathmandu University

Eight member delegation team of Sirindhorn International Institute of Technology (SIIT), Thammasat University, Thailand visited at the principal campuses of Kathmandu University on 24 July, 2013.  

In an interaction, Director of SIIT Prof. Dr. Somnuk Tangtermsirikul highlighted visit purpose with KU officials. This is the first high level visit from SIIT, Thailand to KU for exploring possible areas of mutual interest mainly in Engineering and Management programs that could be undertaken between the institutions in future.

Welcoming the guests, Vice Chancellor of KU Prof. Dr. Ram Kantha Makaju Shrestha admired rapid development of Thai Universities on academic and research activities. He assured that KU is also committed to work with international counterparts like SIIT for strengthening of its programs.

In the meeting Registrar Prof. Dr. Bhola Thapa, Director of Affiliation Affairs Prof. Dr. Sanjay N. Khanal, Head of Departments, Coordinators and the faculties of School of Engineering interacted with the delegates.

"How to self-sustain an institute like Kathmandu University by 2020?"

To be delivered by

Prof. Dr. Shaligram Pokharel

 Dr. Pokharel is a well-known figure to the Kathmandu University family. He was the Visiting Professor for the first batch of Electronics Engineering and Computer Engineering at the University. At present, Dr. Pokharel is a Professor at Qatar University. Previously, he was holding academic positions in Nanyang Technological University, Singapore (2000-2010). Before that, he had worked for 14 years as an Energy Planner in Nepal. 

Prof. Shaligram Pokharel received his PhD in Systems Design Engineering from University of Waterloo, Canada. He was a Colombo Plan Scholar for BE in Mechanical Engineering at the University of Kashmir, India.

Prof. Pokharel’s research interests are in Systems Design and Analysis, Logistics and Supply Chain and Project Management. Currently, he is conducting research on emergency logistics, carbon supply chains, energy efficiency and Qatar Engineer 2030.

He has published numerous research articles in International Journals and conferences. He also serves as the Editor for three international journals.

 His presentation will be followed by Questions and Answers session.

Who can apply?

Candidates with BPharm or equivalent degree with minimum CGPA of 2.5. 

Specialization Areas:

MPharm (Industrial Pharmacy)
PharmD (Post Baccalaureate)

Course Duration:

The duration for the regular course of MPharm is two years and the duration of PharmD is three years. 

Application Form Distribution:

Application Forms can be collected from Department of Pharmacy, Kathmandu University, Dhulikhel, Kavre, Nepal from 01 August 2013 in between 10:00 am and 3:00 pm during working days. 

Application fee:

NRs 1000 to be deposited in KU bank account at Nepal Investment Bank Ltd, Kathmandu University, Dhulkhel.

A team led by Vice Chancellor of Kathmandu University Prof. Dr. Ram Kantha Makaju Shrestha has visited UK to attend the Graduation ceremony of Engineering students at University of Nottingham.

SPEECH BY VC

The team was comprised of Dr. Bim Prasad Shrestha from School of Engineering, Dr. Rajendra Prasad Koju from School of Medical Science of Kathmandu University and Mr. Narayan Gopal Malego from Ministry of Education of Government of Nepal. During the program there was exchange of opinion between the two Vice Chancellors of Universities and also exchanged the Memorandum of Understanding. The team visited Queen`s Medical College and Engineering college of University Nottingham to explore the areas of mutual collaboration.

After the graduation program in Nottingham, The Vice Chancellor met with Director of British Council Dr. Jo Bealla in London that was organized by Foreign and Commonwealth Office of Government of UK.

Later the team also visited British Army camp at Warwickshire and shared the out of mutual research carried out between University of Nottingham and Kathmandu University to be made available for Queen’s Gurakha Army. The program was highlighted and broadcasted in BBC and ITV,

Admissions Open for Undergraduate Program

 

School of Arts of Kathmandu University announces opening of admissions for a Four-Year Program in BACHELOR IN ECONOMICS for the Fall Session of 2013.

The program provides students with:

  • Basic understanding of the functioning of the modern economy,

·         Capacity to analyze the cause and consequences of economic changes,

·         Understanding of policy changes and linkages of Nepal’s economy with the rest of the world,

·         Skills related to economic forecasting, and

·         Employability skills such as leadership, teamwork, critical thinking, communication and problem solving.

 

The entire course is highly participatory and practice-oriented, and students are expected to take leadership in field related activities as well as in class discussions.

 

Eligibility: Applicants must have 10+2 or equivalent degree in any discipline from a recognized institution with minimum aggregate score of 45 percent or CGPA 2.0 out of 4.  

Applicants who have passed Class XI and are waiting for the Class XII results can also apply for a provisional admission. However, they will have to produce the proof of having passed the exam before the commencement of the course.

Kathmandu University, School of Arts announces opening of admissions for a four-year undergraduate program in BACHELOR IN COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT for the Fall Session of 2013.

 

The program emphasizes on:

Vacancy Announcement for position of Research Assistants

 

Background:

Department of Environmental Science and Engineering receives a research grant from Renewable Nepal Programme, the Programme is jointly managed by Kathmandu University (KU), Nepal, and SINTEF Energy Research (SEfAS), Norway, and it is funded by Norwegian Agency for Development Cooperation (Norad), for a year of 2013-2014 for conducting research project on Enhancement of Poultry-litter-fed- Biogas Production System by Changing the Feedstock Composition and increasing the System Temperature for sustainable Electricity Generation”. To support and smoothly conduct the research, the project calls for application from enthusiastic and committed candidates to work as a Research Assistant. There are two positions available, one full time research assistant for one year and other full time research assistant for 8 months.   

Responsibilites:

  • ·          Design a biogas plant for poultry waste
  • ·          Collect primary, secondary data required for the research project and analyze the collected data
  • ·          Prepare research report under the guidance of the Project Leader
  • ·          Any other tasks assigned by the Project leader

Qualification:

Candidates should have at least a Bachelor degree in either Environmental Engineering or Mechanical Engineering. Those who are waiting for their final semester result are also eligible to apply. In addition, the candidate must have good communication skills both in English and Nepali.

VC invited to University of Nottingham, UK as a guest of honor to attend Graduation Ceremony

Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Ram Kantha Makaju Shrestha is leading a delegation to the United Kingdom from Saturday, 13th July, 2013 to 20th July, 2013. Dr. Shrestha has been invited to deliver VIP Speech during Annual Graduation Ceremony at University of Nottingham as a guest of honor.

The theme of his VIP Speech will be 'Global issues of sustainability and ecological solutions to improving the health and wealth of a nation such as Nepal' which will be delivered at the Coates Road Auditorium on 15th July, 2013.

The Vice Chancellor's delegation comprises of Mr. Narayan Gopal Malego, Secretary of Ministry of Education, Dr. Rajendra Prasad Koju, Associate Dean, School of Medical Sciences, and Dr. Bim Prasad Shrestha, Head of Mechanical Engineering Department of Kathmandu University.

During the visit the delegation will also discuss various aspects of bilateral collaboration with the government and higher academic institutions of UK. The delegation will meet UK Minister for Universities and Science, Global Director of Education of British Council, dignitaries of Nottingham University and other higher education institution of UK.

Kathmandu University has signed a MoU with the University of Nottingham on 5 March, 2013.
