Four days Training Program on
Basic Computational Mathematics using a Computer Software
From: August 26, 2014 to 29 August 2014
Venue: Kathmandu University, Dhulikhel.
Session I: Theory 10:00 A.M. – 1:00 P.M.
Session II: Practical 2:00 P.M. –3:30 P.M.
We are building foundations of computational mathematics using MATLAB. Each class provides an in-depth look at a particular topic or set of topics related to computational mathematics. Students will learn through practical applications, and are welcome and encouraged to use challenges from their own research problem as learning tools during class discussions. Valuable tips and insights needed for the analysis of research data with the help of computer software will be given. A detailed manual illustrating all the steps will also be provided.
Course Outline: This course gives an overview of various commands needed for understanding and visualizing a numerical data originating from a scientific experiment. Basic numerical analysis will be taught in these four days covering topics such as maxima minima, polynomial and roots, Newton’s method and bisection method. Various methods also used in visually representing a numerical data and its application in maxima minima, polynomial and roots etc will also be taught. The importance of matrices and vectors in solution of various numerical problems will be highlighted. This course will teach the concepts of numerical analysis using MATLAB in an example oriented manner and requires no prerequisite courses.
