Community Education Project (CEP)
The following projects have been selected by Community Education Project (CEP) for the implementation in the proposed areas.
All the projects are expected to be implemented in the month of December, 2014.

Lists of projects (on hold) should address the comments and modify the proposal accordingly and submit to CEP office by Dec 01, 2014, for the acceptance. The project titles which are not on the list are rejected. Students whose projects are rejected are encouraged to apply with better concept on community impact in our identified areas in future.

MeD Organized One Day Workshop on ‘globalDrive’ Project
Department of Mechanical Engineering (www.ku.edu.np/mech), School of Engineering, organized a one day workshop on ‘globalDrive,’ a project from the Technical University of Munich, on 23 November 2014 at TTL Auditorium. German delegates representing TU Munich, Associate Professors from the Department, students enrolled in Masters’ Program and some undergraduates from both Departments of Mechanical Engineering and Electrical Engineering attended the program.
The program commenced with the welcome speech by Dr. Hari Prasad Neopane, Associate Professor and Head of Department. He spoke about cooperation between the two institutes to achieve academic excellence. Dr. Bivek Baral, Associate Professor and the Director of Technical Training Center (TTC) and Dr. Daniel Tuladhar, Associate Professor from the Department of Mechanical Engineering, participated actively in the interaction. German delegates spoke on the project ‘globalDrive,’ which was about the use of electric vehicles in Nepal and especially in rural areas.
The discussion was followed by a presentation entitled Typical Use Cases of Electric Vehicle in Rural Region, Population Development, Street and Path conditions in Nepal and Environmental Conditions by final year undergraduates from the Department. The workshop was mainly focused on the use of electric vehicles on different sectors like transportation, tourism, infrastructure and healthcare. The integration of different modules on an existing electric vehicle to meet multiple public use was of primary concern. Design sketches were presented on healthcare module and transportation module at the end of the session. The program ended formally with some concluding thoughts by Dr. Bivek Baral, Dr. Daniel Tuladhar and the German guests.

Dr. Adhikary’s new book released
On the eve of International Philosophy Day on 19 November 2014, a book on classical Mimamsa philosophy by Dr. Nirmala Mani Adhikary, Asst. Professor and Coordinator of Media Studies, Kathmandu University, School of Arts, was released amid a program in Tri-Chandra Campus, Kathmandu. The book introduces a great philosopher Kumaril Bhatta and his school of Mimamsa philosophy. The program was organized by the Department of Philosophy and Psychology, Tri-Chandra Campus, Tribhuvan University, Kathmandu. The bibliographic detail of the book is as follows:Adhikary, N. M. Turbine Testing Lab (TTL) celebrated its Third Anniversary on November 18, 2014 at TTL Auditorium. Norwegian delegates representing NTNU, SINTEF, Norwegian Research Council, NORAD, NINA, delegates of Bhutan and Uganda, Founder Vice Chancellor of KU, Registrar, Deans and Associate Deans, Professors, Associate and Assistant Professors, Lecturers of Mechanical Engineering Department, Staffs of KU and TTL attended the program. The program was started with welcome speech of Dr. Hari Prasad Neopane, Associate Professor and Head of Department of Mechanical Engineering. At that moment, he spoke about the ongoing and future activities of the lab. The speech was followed by the official release of the Third Anniversary Issue Magazine of TTL by the Founder VC of KU, Prof. Dr. Suresh Raj Sharma and Prof. Dr. Ole Gunnar Dahlhaug from NTNU. After that release, there was an inauguration release of the first Project Compendium of Mechanical Engineering Department, ‘Aviyanta 2014’ by Prof. Dr. Bhola Thapa. In that occasion, Prof. Bim Prasad Shrestha, Associate Dean of Research, School of Engineering shared his thoughts and gave vote of thanks to all invitees. The event was complemented by the MED Project Exhibition outside the Auditorium, which consisted of many of the undergraduate projects handled by the department.

Dr. Bista and Mr. Dongol in International Conference
Rabindra Bista, Assistant Professor at the Department of Computer Science and
Engineering (DOCSE), presented a paper in 8th International
Conference on Advanced Computing and Communication Technologies, held on 15
November, 2014 at Asia Pacific Institute of Information Technology (APIIT),
Panipat, Haryana, India.
The paper was based on a project carried out by Mr. Deeyoranjan Dongol, a graduate student at DOCSE, under Dr. Bista’s supervision. The same was published in Mr. Dongol’s authorship, with the title “A Model for Software Risk Management.”
In his presentation, Dr. Bista highlighted the application of the newly proposed method to calculate risks associated with software development.

The NORHED SUNREM-Himalaya Project announces the call for proposal from faculty members in the School of Science. The proposals should address topics related to the central theme “Sustainable Management of Natural Resources and Climate Change Adaptation in the Himalayan Region”. Interested faculty members are requested to submit full proposals to the Project Coordinator, SUNREM-Himalaya Project, AEC/DESE, School of Science, Kathmandu University by 15th December 2014. Submitted proposals will be evaluated and selected for funding by a committee by 30th December 2014. Proposals awarded funding will take effect from 1st January 2015.
Faculty members within the School of Science who have completed their PhD degrees and have proven research interest and capacity (as evidenced by papers published in peer-reviewed international Journals with impact factor).

CALL FOR PROPOSAL
Community Education Project (CEP) is a program run by Kathmandu University (KU) that intends to work in collaboration with national and international organizations and agencies for improving the quality of life of the rural people through community education programs.
CEP invites proposals for the Community Based Projects as well as community activities to be conducted in areas like Langtang, Tamakoshi and outreach centers of Dhulikhel Hospital (especially Solambu and Bahunepati, Melamchi). The main objective is to create a platform for students and researchers to disseminate their knowledge to upgrade and enhance the lifestyle of community people. Only selected proposals will be financially supported by CEP. Selected proposals are expected to be implemented in the month of December, 2014.
Interested students (Undergraduates and Graduates) and Research Assistants of Kathmandu University (Open to all Schools) need to submit their proposals including budget details and detail program schedule. The deadline for submission of proposal is November 21, 2014. The proposals must include relevant area faculty name as the supervisor.
The selection result will be announced by November 26, 2014.
