Department of Mechanical Engineering (DoME), Kathmandu University, in association with Association of Mechanical Engineering Students (AMES) organized a project exhibition program Aviyantaa'15 on 26 November 2015 in Block 8, School of Engineering.
The event marked the release of second issue of Aviyantaa, the yearbook of the Department and also the fourth Anniversary of Turbine Testing Lab (TTL). In the event, the second issue of Aviyantaa'15 was released jointly by Prof. Dr. Bhola Thapa, Dean, School of Engineering and Registrar, KU, and Dr. Petter Stoa, Vice President of SINTEF Energy, Norway & Steering Committee member of RenewableNepal.
Likewise, the fourth Anniversary issue of Turbine Testing Lab was released by Prof. Ole Gunnar Dahlhaug and Mr. Bård Aslak Brandåstrø from Norwegian University of Science & Technology (NTNU) Norway, and Mr. Fredrik Warring from Research Council of Norway.

The School of Science (SOS), KU and H-Plant Pvt. Ltd, Lalitpur, Kathmandu signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU).
The MoU was signed by Prof. Dr. Mohan Bikram Gewali, Dean School of Science, and Mr. Roh Kyung-hoo, Chief Representative, H-Plant Pvt. Ltd on 25 November 2015.
The main objective of the Understanding is to foster Research and Development (R&D) for industrialization of plant resources.

M.Sc. Environment and Natural Resources

Eligibility: The general requirement for entry into the MSc ENR programme is 50% marks or CGPA of more than 2.0 with a 4-year undergraduate science degree in Environmental Science, Natural Resources, Agriculture, Forestry and allied subject areas. For candidates with 3-year Bachelor degree, one semester of “Bridge Course” is required to be taken with the regular intake of B.Sc. Environmental Science (3rd and 4th year courses). There is also a possibility to take one elective 3-credit course on Human Values and Personal Transformation as part of MSc program given by highly stem scholar from Bhutan and Nepal and is appreciated by students as transformative experiences to commit and care for better environment.
Deserving applicants shall receive scholarships available through the NORHED SUNREM-Himalaya Project. M.Sc. ENR classes shall begin from 30th Dec 2015. Qualified candidates who have applied earlier are also informed herewith to attend the Orientation to be held from 10.30-12.30 hrs on 30th Nov 2015.
Special thesis topics to receive research funding support include:
Sustainable resource management in the changing climate context
Climate change adaptation and mitigation with reference to agriculture, water resources and urban environments.
MAPs and NTFPs as a means for livelihood security and climate change adaptation.

Dr. Rajendra Gyawali, Assistant Professor at the Department of Pharmacy, presented a paper entitled “Integrated approaches towards herbal drug formulation and development in Nepal” in the Fifth International Conference on the "next generation pharmacist" held on 17 and 18 October 2015 in PESCP, Bangluru, India.
The paper highlighted the prospect of drug discovery from herbal medicines of Nepal by taking knowledge of long history of herbal drug usage for the clinical management of a variety of diseases in indigenous cultures of Nepal.

M. Tech in Biotechnology Program
Eligibility: Students who have completed 4 years undergraduate programs in Biotechnology, Agricultural Science, Food Technology, Microbiology, Pharmacy, Biochemistry and Veterinary Science and other relevant degrees with minimum 50.0% in aggregate or 2.0 CGPA are eligible to apply.
Candidates, who already submitted the application in first call, do not require re-submitting the application.
Students, who have completed 3 years undergraduate programs with minimum 60 % in aggregate or 2.5 CGPA, will have to undertake one-year bridge course, in Biotechnology, to be conducted by the Department.
Application forms are available in administration office, School of Science, Dhulikhel, Kavre.
Last date of submission of application is 29th November 2015.
Only short listed candidates will be informed to appear for entrance examination on Monday, 30th November 2015 and interview on Thursday, 3rdDecember 2015.

Dr. Gunjan Bisht Thapa, Assistant Professor at the Department of Chemical Science and Engineering, presented a paper entitled “Supercritical Fluid Synthesis, Characterization and Utilization of Magnetic Polymer Nanocomposites” in 14th International Union of Materials Research Societies-International Conference on Advanced Materials (IUMRS-ICAM 2015) held on October 25(Sunday)~29(Thursday), 2015 at the Jeju International Convention Center in Jeju, South Korea.
The IUMRS-ICAM 2015 comprised 38 symposia and 3 workshops. The number of oral presenters was 810, and the number of poster presenters 884 from 41 different countries. The conference was aimed to advance the multidisciplinary nature of materials research internationally and to promote information exchange among national or regional societies with interests in interdisciplinary materials research and coordination among their activities.
In her paper, Dr. Bisht highlighted the use of supercritical carbon dioxide-based chemical synthesis of magnetic polymer nanocomposites and its beneficial application in biomedicine.
