The Vice Chancellor Participates in All India Vice Chacellors' Conference

Prof. Dr. Ram Kantha Makaju Shrestha, the Vice Chancellor, participated in the All India Vice Chancellors' Conference held in Osmania University, Hyderabad, India, during 27-28 April 2017.

The Conference, based on the broad theme "Perspectives on Faculty, Funding and Freedom," was organized in collaboration with the Association of Indian Universities (AIU) and Telangana State Council for Higher Education (TSCHE) to commemorate the Centenary Celebrations of Osmania University. 

More than two hundred university Vice Chancellors from India and abroad attended the two-day Conference.

As an Associate Member since 1996, Kathmandu University has been a part of AIU's various programs, including the hosting of the prestigious South Asian Universities Youth Festival (SAUFEST) in February 2008.

KU Signs MoU with MLU, Germany

Kathmandu University signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Martin Luther University (MLU), Halle, Germany. The Understanding involves a broader objective of extending academic and research collaborations across different areas of mutual interest.

The MoU signing was accomplished amid a gathering attended by His Excellency Mr. Matthias Meyer, German Ambassador to Nepal, Dr. Manja Hussner, Head of the International Office at MLU, Prof. Dr. Ram Kantha Makaju Shrestha, Vice Chancellor, KU; Prof. Dr. Bhola Thapa, Registrar, KU; Deans of different Schools and Professors and Officials of KU.

The Memorandum was signed by the Vice Chancellor on behalf of KU and by the Rector on behalf of MLU. 

The Program also included an interaction session which was moderated by Dr. Bim Prasad Shrestha, Professor at the Department of Mechanical Engineering.

Prof. Dr. Shrestha, the Vice Chancellor, extends heartfelt gratitude to MLU Rector, His Excellency Mr. Meyer and Dr. Hussner for initiating this collaboration.

Dr. Bista Attends ICETRE2017 As Chief Guest

Dr. Rabindra Bista, Assistant Professor at the Department of Computer Science and Engineering, inaugurated the International Conference on Emerging Trends and Research in Engineering (ICETRE2017) as the hief Guest.

In addition, he delivered Keynote Speech in the ICETRE 2017, organized at Navsahyadri Group of Institutes, Faculty of Engineering, Naigaon, Pune, India and it was assisted by A R DIGITECH. The ICETRE2017 was held on 23-25 March 2017. 

 Dr. Bista’s Keynote focused on the mechanism that optimizes duration of data collection in Wireless Sensor Network.

Mr. Manoj Shakya and Mr. Sushil Shrestha, Assistant Professors of Department of Computer Science and Engineering, Kathmandu University, attended 2nd Regional Meeting of the Asia Research Grant Program organized by FIT-ED Philippines in Manila during 29 – 30 March 2017.

The theme of the meeting was Digital Learning for Development (DL4D). During the workshop, all the sub-grantees including Mr. Shakya and Mr. Shrestha presented their research findings.

International Symposium on CRHT VII organized by Turbine Testing Lab

Turbine Testing Lab organized 7th International Symposium on Current Research in Hydraulic Turbines (CRHT-VII) on 4th April, 2017 in Kathmandu University, Dhulikhel. CRHT is an effort of Turbine Testing Lab to create a platform for aspiring researchers from hydropower sector to share their ideas and information regarding their research activities.

 

 

The event started with the welcome speech by Dr. Hari Prasad Neopane, Member Secretary at TTL and Assoc. Prof. and HOD at DOME, followed by presentations of Dr. Biraj Singh Thapa on recent activities and future directions of the lab. Mr. Tom Solberg, MD of ICH, Norway gave the key note speech about the activities of ICH. Prof. Tri Ratna Bajracharya, Dean of Institute of Engineering, gave remarks about the potential collaboration between KU and TU. Prof. Dr. Ram Kantha Makaju Shrestha, Vice Chancellor at Kathmandu University delivered the inaugural speech about the importance of research in academic sector. It was followed by featured presentations of Mr. Hitendra Dev Shakya, Prof. Baoshan Zhu, Prof. B.K. Gandhi and Mr. I.M. Deshar representing Nepal Electricity Authority, Tshingua University, IIT Roorkee and Himal Power Ltd. respectively.

In the technical session, there were in total, 17 presentations, which was divided into 2 thematic area: The first one was called Development of test rig, tool and system. In this theme, the presentations were mostly focused on establishing an excellence for design, manufacturing and testing in the field of renewable energy. This session was chaired by Prof. B. K. Gandhi and Dr. Meg B. Bishwakarma from Hydro Lab. The second thematic area was called Modeling, Simulation and Experimental Techniques. This theme was more focused on measurements of several parameters related to hydraulic turbines based on numerical methods and experiments. This session was chaired by Prof. Baoshan Zhu and Prof. Hari Prasad Neopane. Each session was concluded with the certificate distributions.

Prof. B. K. Gandhi provided the summary of the sessions giving best wishes to all the researchers. Prof. Bhola Thapa, Registrar of Kathmandu University gave remarks about the significance of this event. Prof. Bhupendra B. Chhetri, Dean of School of Engineering finally gave the closing speech with vote of thanks to all the participants, presenters, organizers, volunteers and sponsors.

 


The event was coordinated by volunteers of Mechanical engineering and was emceed by Ms. Pragati Poudel and Ms. Kritika Bhandari.
