A team of researchers (students and faculties) from the Department of Environmental Science and Engineering led by Dr. Chhatra Sharma published a research article on International Journal of Environment. The article can be cited as: Ghimire, P., Niraula, A., Rai, A., Pandey, A., Gurung, S., Sharma, C.M. (2017). SAARC Training workshop on "Aquatic (Stream) insects useful for monitoring water quality”

Aquatic Ecology Centre (AEC) and Environmental Resources Research Center (ERRC), Trivandrum, Kerala, India announces a training workshop for staff, researchers and students of SAARC countries (India, Pakistan, Afghanistan, Nepal, Bhutan, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Maldives) on "Aquatic (stream) insects useful for monitoring water quality" from 4th to 13th October, 2017, at Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala, India.  The instructors of the workshop are world renowned Freshwater Biologists from USA, New Zealand and Taiwan (Professor John Morse, Dr. Richard Storey and Dr Senthi Kumaran) who are specialized in the areas of taxonomy, and ecology of stream insects and stream monitoring and health. Two to three participants will be selected from Nepal for participation in this training workshop. Those of you who are interested are hereby informed to send an email to aec@ku.edu.np for willingness to participate. AEC deserves the right to final selection based on individual participant's qualification, commitment and motivation.

RDC Directorate is shifted to Block 14

This is for the information of all concerned that the Directorate of Research, Development & Consultancy is shifted to Block 14, South Block, First Floor. This is the same block where Bank is stationed. However, the Project Finance matters shall still be addressed from earlier office in Block 02 by the Project Finance Officer in consultation with the Finance Division under the Office of the Registrar.

For any technical issues related from proposal submission for seeking external grants to reporting in externally funded Research, Development and Consultancy projects; please do not hesitate to communicate over phone #  98013 700 61 (official) or meet in person (12:15 to 15.45 hrs. afternoon).

EnergizeNepal has made 1stCall for Application for R&D Project Funding Support. The date of call is 25 May 2017. The deadline for submission of application is 25 June 2017.

New Applications for Applied Research and Development (R&D) Project Funding Support from EnergizeNepal Project are invited from Nepalese Research Institution (University, College, and other organization qualifying as a research institution)in partnership with Nepalese Energy Industry, and preferably also in partnership with Foreign Research Institution and Foreign Energy Industry, to conduct Applied R&D for industrial development in Nepal in the area of Renewable Energy. The proposed project duration shall be of two years to start from August 2017.

EnergizeNepal is a Project for supporting research based energy sector development in Nepal. It provides funding support to collaborative R&D projects related to renewable energy technology, planned and implemented by R&D institution in Nepal in cooperation with local industries and Norwegian institutions & industries. EnergizeNepal is managed by Kathmandu University (KU), Nepal, in partnership with Hydro Lab Pvt. Ltd. Nepal, NTNU Norway and SINTEF Energy Research (SEfAS), Norway. It is funded by ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA), Norway.

EnergizeNepal is open for participation by all Nepalese and Foreign Research Institutions and Industries on competitive equal opportunity basis within the Project Framework. The Principal Applicant shall be a Nepalese Research Institution, which applies for funding support from the Programme to implement a conceived R&D project with the partners. The Principal Applicant and the Partners shall refer to the Application Call Document and the Application Forms & General Guide for preparing and submitting the application.

Application Call for Erasmus+ International Credit Mobility

This is to notify all the undergraduate students of School of Science and School of Engineering that Bialystok University of Technology, Poland would like to host two (2) students from Kathmandu University, Nepal under Erasmus+ Programme- Key Action 1, for the upcoming Fall Session 2017. The total amount of the scholarship for each student is 4570 Euro for one (1) semester (maximum 5 months). Please submit the following documents to your respective school administration in order to show your interest for this mobility.

1.   CGPA Score,  considering GPA of previous semesters, with GPA Sheets

2.   Motivation Letter

3.   Recommendation Letter from your Department

4.   Xerox of Student ID Card

Invitation for PhD Application

 

The department invites applications for admission to Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) program in the field of Environmental Science. One seat is available for the research which focuses on aquatic resources utilization and pollution effects due to natural and anthropogenic activities. The study will be conducted in two wetlands (lake Phewa and Kulekhani) and will start from June 2017. The selected PhD candidate will take part in the project activities of a UGC-Nepal funded collaborative research project.


Brief information of the research project:

The study will focus on the resource allocation and distribution of aquaculture in Lake Phewa and Kulekhani reservoir; quantification of sedimentation due to agriculture and natural processes; physiochemical characterization of these wetlands to relate with environmental degradation. The main goal of the research is to gain a holistic scenario of the linkages among resource utilization, environmental pollution and degradation so as to contribute for sustainable management of water resources.


Eligibility:

The candidate must have completed a minimum of 17 years of formal study in relevant field. The candidate with 16 years of formal study may also be eligible if he/she possesses additional relevant degree or courses. Duration of the study: Three years
