A Postdoctoral Position Available

 

A postdoctoral position is available for qualified candidate in the Department of Biotechnology, School of Science, Kathmandu University, Nepal, to work in a research project in the area of Secondary metabolite analysis and Bar-coding of important plants. Interested candidate with a PhD degree in Biochemistry/Biotechnology/Life Science Technology which is earned within past 10 years or with a postdoctoral position held within past 5 years, a proven track record of research publication and experience in the field of gene cloning and bioinformatics is invited to apply.

 

The position is for two years and is subject to grant funding availability from the University Grants Commission, Nepal. Please apply before 10 January, 2018

Relocation and Maintenance of Valves/ Connections at Turbine Testing Lab

This is to request for calling quotations to carry out some technical works at Turbine Testing Lab within the date of 7th January. 2018The activities are attached with this letter.

This work includes following activities:

1.       Relocating the valve and the connection. The current position is shown in picture 1 and picture 2. The new position is shown in picture 3. A new T-joint will be available, which will be connected to the pressure tank. The works will include cutting of the pipe, welding, fabrication of additional flanges and nuts/bolts (if necessary).

2.       Disassembling all the components/equipment/rigs that is currently present at TTL and clearing the TTL floor. Crane is available in the lab.

3.       Installation of the pressure tanks with the new setting as shown in Picture 3.

4.       Maintenance of all the valves present in the lab. These valves are shown in Picture 4. Maintenance works include applying lubrication to the valves, repair any damaged parts and operate all valves.

Winter Vacation in School of Science and School of Engineering

 

There will be winter vacation for faculties and students of School of Science and School of Engineering from 10 to 14 January 2018. The vacation has been adjusted from original calendar considering the vacation provided by the schools during the recent national and state election.

Respective School and Department administrations will be open during the period on working days of the university.

Further, Compartmental and GPA-Makeup Examinations will be held as per the schedule from the Office of the Controller of Examinations during the above vacation period as well.

KU Signed MoUs with Wuhan University

KU signed two Memorandums of Understanding (MOUs) with Wuhan University, China, amid a gathering of represntatives from both the University.

Prof. Dr. Ram Kantha Makaju Shrestha, the Vice Chancellor, signed the MoU on behalf of KU, and Prof. Li Fei, Vice President signed it on behalf of Wuhan University. The MoU ceremony was facilitated by Prof. Dr. Bim Prasad Shrestha, on behalf of the Office of the Vice Chancellor, and Dr. Rajeev Shrestha, Associate Professor at the Department of Pharmacology, School of Medical Sciences, KU.

Of the two MOUs, one involves educational, scientific and cultural cooperation between the two Universities. It targets to initiate research activities in the areas of mutual interest such as public health, water resources and hyropower engineering, pharmacy, nursing, management, law etc.; exchange of scholars, faculty and students for various programs and projects; and, information sharing in the fields of mutual interests

The other MOU is about co-consulting, co-building, co-sharing and promoting the establishment of Health Research Institute under the framework of international cooperation initiated by China's "Belt and Road Initiative". It aims to carry out teaching and scientific research cooperation and to promote cultural exchanges.

Dr. Sharma Participated in Eleventh ICCEM

Dr. Gajendra Sharma, Associate Professor at Department of Computer Science and Engineering, participated in Eleventh International Conference on Crisis and Emergency Management (ICEM) held during 15-17 December 2017 at Sejong, South Korea. 

The title of his presentation was ‘Significance of IT in Crisis and Emergency Management'. The conference was jointly sponsored by National Research Foundation of Korea, Chungbuk National University and Chungnam Institute, Chungnam Province. 

Dr. Sharma also delivered lectures on Research Methodology to graduate students of Chungbuk National University.

Construction works and maintenance at Turbine Testing Lab

 

This is to request for calling quotations to carry out some construction works at Turbine Testing Lab within the date of 26th Dec. 2017. The activities are attached with this letter. The major work includes construction of a Tool room outside TTL space, wall putting and some other maintenance works.

This work includes following activities:

1.       Construction of a tool room outside Turbine Testing Lab. The room will have an approximate dimension of 25 x 8 x 9 ft. The location of the room is shown in Picture 1. The current scenario and tentative location of the room is shown in Picture 2. The ceiling consists of corrugated steel and 3 inch RCC. The framing of the room will contain steel structure and wall will be of cement board including finishing works.

2.       Wall putting of the clean room of dimension 12 x 8 x 12 ft.  Granite flooring is also included. The location of the room is shown in Picture 1.

3.       Sealing of the holes and gaps in the VFD room and other locations. Some of these locations are shown in Picture 3.

Dr. Bista Participated in SKIMA 2017 International Conference

Dr. Rabindra Bista, Assistant Professor at the Department of Computer Science and Engineering (DoCSE), participated in the 11th International Conference on Software, Knowledge, Information Management & Applications (SKIMA 2017), 6-8 December, 2017, Colombo, Sri Lanka. He also chaired one of the Technical Sessions of the conference.

Following four papers have been presented in the SKIMA 2017 from the DoCSE, School of Engineering, Kathmandu University.

1.      A New Approach for Software Risk Estimation: Rabindra Bista, Sushama Karki, Deeyoranjan Dongol

 

2.      Hybrid Approach to Java Virtual Machine Used in Wireless Sensor Networks: Rabindra Bista and Sapan Aryal

 

3.      A New Approach to Extract Meaningful Clinical Information From Medical Notes: Rabindra Bista, and Awanish Ranjan

 

4.      Keystroke Biometric System for Touch Screen Text Input on Android Devices Prakash Gautam and Pankaj Dawadi

 

Above all four papers are based on the respective Master’s thesis of Ms. Sushama Karki, Mr. Sapan Aryal, Awanish Ranjan, and Mr. Prakash Gautam.
