Sports Week Inaugurated

Dhulikhel, 15 May 2015

Sports Week 2016 is inaugurated today by Prof. Dr. Bhola Thapa, Registrar of Kathmandu University by kicking football at the Central campus football ground.  Organized by Students Welfare Directorate, this event is scheduled to continue till 21 May.

 

 

In the inauguration ceremony, Prof. Thapa expressed happiness for making the event happen and expressed gratitude to the Directorate and organizing committees. Addressing the gathering, Prof. Dr. Deepak Subedi, the Director of the Directorate, appreciated the work of his team and organizing committees. He said such events would contribute to overall development of the students, and hoped that the students' would participate enthusiastically and maintain principles of fair play. Ashesh Byanju, Chief coordinator, thanked Welfare Directorate and all the students for their dedication to organize the event. He also hoped that students would participate enthusiastically.

 

 

Prof. Panna Thapa, Controller of the examinations; Dr. Bhupendra Bimal Chhetri, Dean of School of Engineering; Mr. Mukunda P. Upadhaya, Chief administrative officer; HoDs and Coordinators of different departments released pigeons to mark the commencement of the Sports week. The ceremony was attended by faculty members, staffs, and students.

 

During this week, several outdoor and indoor games will be held. Nearly 800 students from different schools of the University are participating.

Importantly, sports week 2016 is being held this year after an interval of six years.

IDEAS SHORTLISTED FOR IDEA HUNT

 

In response to a call for start-up ideas by Kathmandu University Business Incubation Center (KUBIC) and Idea Studio as part of Idea Hunt program, altogether 275 ideas have been received. Judges and Mentors Mr. Suman Shakya, Mr. Ujjwal Shrestha, and Mr. Amit Agrawal shortlisting 20 Top Ideas for the Final Pitching that is going to be held on 20th May, 2016 at Idea Studio, School of Management, Kathmandu University.

Vacancy Announcement for Research Assistant

The Kathmandu University, School of Science announces a Research Assistant (RA) to work in the WWF Nepal funded NTFP project. The candidate should have at least four years undergraduate degree in Botany or Forestry or Pharmacy with minimum CGPA 3.00 or first division. Preference will be given to candidate having  experience in the NTFP field assessment, preparation of new herbal products, enterprise development etc. Salaries, allowance and tenure will be according to the project.

Interested candidates can submit their application along with a cover letter, CV and academic credentials to the following address no later than 17 May 2016.

New SoE Dean Welcomed

On 2 May 2016, Dr. Bhupendra Bimal Chhetri was welcomed as the new Dean of School of Engineering. 

Prof. Dr. Ram Kantha Makaju Shrestha, the Vice Chancellor, handed Dr. Chhetri his Appointment letter, in a program attended by the Registrar, Controller of Examinations, Directors, Deans, Associate Deans, Heads, Coordinators, Managers, Officers and other important faculties and staffs.

Silver Jubilee Marked with Kanta dab dab

On 27 April 2016, Prof. Dr. Bhola Thapa, the Registrar, marked the clebration of the University's Silver Jubilee amid a vibrant gathering of musicians, faculties and students in a program organized by Kathmandu University Society of Music and Culture (KUSMC).

The program featured well-known band Kanta dab dab.

Agreement of Intent between KU and SU

Prof. Dr. Ram Kantha Makaju Shrestha, the Vice-Chancellor of KU and Prof. Dr. Xie Heping, President of Sichuan University (SU), China signed an Agreement of Intent on 27 April 2016 for the duration of five years.

 

In accordance with this Agreement, cooperation between the two universities shall be carried out through such activities as:

a. Exchange of faculty/staff
b. Exchange of undergraduate students
c. Joint training of postgraduates
d. Joint research activities and publications
e. Participation in seminars and academic meetings
f. Exchange of academic materials and other information
g. Special short-term academic and professional programs
h. Office space to be provided for joint programs at both universities

 

School of Science Receives a Research Grant on NTFPs

A research grant agreement was signed between School of Science, Kathmandu University (KU) and World Wildlife Fund (WWF), Nepal, on April 14, 2016. The agreement was signed by Prof. Dr. Mohan Bikram Gewali, Dean of School of Science, KU, and  Mr. Anil Manandhar, Country Representative of WWF, Nepal.

The agreement took place in the gathering of personalities from WWF: Dr. Ghana Shyam Gurung, Senior Conservation Program Director of WWF, Nepal; Mr Shiv Raj Bhatta, Director of the Field Programs; Mr. Ananta Ram Bhandari, Program Manager-SHL; and from KU: Dr Rajendra Gyawali, Assistant professor of Department of Pharmacy.

 

 

The grant provided by WWF will be utilized for the assessments of NTFPs of the Langtang area, their value addition, and establish collaboration mechanism for enterprise development and better livelihood.
