On the basis of the documents submitted and the scholarship interview held on January 09, 2018, Ms. Sahana Kunwar, from BPharm 1st year, has been selected for the most prestigious Bhupendra Bahadur Thapa Memorial Scholarship.

This scholarship is being provided by the family of Late Mr. Bhupendra Bahadur Thapa, an eminent person with remarkable contribution in the field of pharmacy. He was also a Visiting Faculty of Department of Pharmacy, Kathmandu University.

SoE signed a MoU with Energy Development Council with DoME initiation on 15 May 2018

The main purpose of this MoU is to conduct a project study on determining the hydro power potential of Nepal. The data derived from this study shall be a new updated data that is essential to reform and formulate plans and policies for speedy hydro project sector development in Nepal. The duration of the study is three months which starts from July 2018 and ends in September 2018. The submission of the project study report is expected by first week of September 2018.

Main highlights of MoU are as follows,

 

  • EDC shall provide the study on Inventory of River in Nepal that includes the details of more than 11000 river and rivulets of Nepal.
  • EDC shall provide the methodology for conducting the study.
  • EDC shall provide GIS software and methodology to conduct the study.
  • EDC shall provide training on GIS to the students involved if required.
  • EDC shall provide a stipend of Rs. 5000 per month to the 15 students involved in the study.
  • EDC shall provide a stipend of Rs. 50,000 per month to the Program Manager to coordinate and supervise the project study.

Mobility of Nepalese Student to Wuhan University

MOBILITY OF NEPALESE STUDENT to WUHAN UNIVERSITY, CHINA

Under Kathmandu University – World Bank Project

 

World Bank (WB) and Kathmandu University (KU) have signed an agreement to start a collaborative program entitled ‘Cooperation for Capacity Building Program on Education of Future Generation of Water Resources Development Professionals’. Professor Bim Prasad Shrestha, is the Principal Investigator of this program.

 

Under this agreement one of the project activities is “Fellowship for Nepalese students to attend training and courses in international Universities”. The objective of this activity is to “Provide exposure and opportunity to work in international research labs and develop professional network.

 

A team of 10 students from KU and Tribhuvan University (TU) has departed from Nepal to Wuhan University on 15 May 2018 for stay period of 45 days.

Title: A Tribute to Stephen William Hawking

On Friday 4th May, 2018, Kathmandu University Society of Applied Physics (KUSAP) organized a talk program featuring Dr. Udayaraj Khanal, Professor emeritus of Tribhuvan University and a veteran Physicist and Mathematician. The aim of the program was to remember late Prof. Stephen William Hawking, who passed away recently. Stephen William Hawking (1942 - 2018) was the former Lucasian Professor of Mathematics at the University of Cambridge and author of A Brief History of Time which is an international bestseller. His death is a great loss for whole scientific community and the world. Prof. Khanal elaborated many aspects of Hawking’s personal life, success and failures in his careers as well as major contributions in cosmology.

The venue of the event was Technical Training Lab (TTL) in Engineering Block and more than hundred students, faculties and staffs participated in the program.

 

Dr. Khanal enlightened us with some of the basic physics behind Black hole and interesting theories like M-Theory (String theory) and Grand Unification theories (GUTs) in a very simple language. Also, he answered many queries raised by participants regarding cosmology.

Finally, the program was concluded by giving token of love to Prof. Khanal by Prof. Dr. Deepak Prasad Subedi and the vote of thanks by Prof. Dr. Kanhaiya Jha, Associate Dean of School of Science.

Turbine Testing Lab (TTL), School of Engineering, Kathmandu University invites application from interested candidate for “Paid Internship” for administrative activities at TTL.

 

Major Responsibilities: to assist day-to-day administrative works, to look after account/ finance and keep updates on budget and expenditure of the various projects in the lab.

 

Eligibility: Candidate should be current student in Bachelor of Business Information System (BBIS) in second or third year at Kathmandu University and should have some knowledge on accounting and information management.

 Kathmandu University Boys Hostel invites expression of interest for accommodation at Central Campus, Dhulikhel, Kavre. Only 2nd or 3rd year students from School of Science and Engineering are eligible to apply. 

Please fill the attached form and email to kubh@ku.edu.np before 4:00PM, May 8th, 2018. In the subject line please write exactly EoI accommodation, 2018. In the body of email write your situation explaining why you want to stay in Hostel (not more than 500 words). If you have already requested accommodation in email please come with original documents at the time of interview.

All students MUST appear in interview with your original documents on 9th or 10th May, 2018. Interview time is from 4:00 pm to 5:00 pm, please book your time to hostel office before interview.
