Announcement for Admission in Master of Pharmacy (MPharm)


The Department of Pharmacy, School of Science, Kathmandu University announces opening of admissions for two-year MPharm program in following specializations:

·         Industrial Pharmacy

·         Pharmaceutical Care 

Eligibility: Candidates with BPharm or equivalent degree with minimum CGPA of 2.0 out of 4 or 50% in aggregate marks are eligible to apply.

Seats: There are total 30 seats available in MPharm program, 15 in each specialization. In each group, 13 students will be selected exclusively on merit basis and 2 seats are reserved for sponsored candidates. From the received applications for the corporate seats, selection will be on merit basis. If corporate seat admissions are less than allotted, remaining will be filled from the merit list.


Application form collection and submission:  Form can be collected from the department or can be downloaded.

Duly filled form along with the required documents, as mentioned below, should be submitted at the department by August 27, 2018.


Entrance exam will be held as follows; 

Date   : August 28, 2018

Time   : 10:00 – 11:00 am 

Venue : Department of Pharmacy, Kathmandu University, Dhulikhel

Result will be published at www.ku.edu.np on August 29, 2018.


Interview date: August 31, 2018 (further detail will be provided at the time of entrance exam result)

Documents to be submitted with application form

·         Self-attested photocopies of academic and character certificates from SLC onward

·         Self-attested photocopy of citizenship or passport

·         Two recommendations (preferably one from the academic supervisor and another from the present employer and in case of unemployed candidate, both can be from academic supervisors of institution of recent graduation)

·         Work experience letter (if applicable)

·         Three recent passport size photographs

·         Self-attested photocopy of migration certificate (submission of original is required at the time of admission)

·         Bank voucher of application processing fee payment

·         Sponsorship letter (compulsory if applying for corporate seat)


NOTE: Any of the above documents submitted after August 27, 2018 will not be accepted.

Renewable Nepal Phase II Call for Application

Renewable Nepal Phase II under EnergizeNepal has made 2nd Call for Application for R&D Project Funding Support. The date of call is 06 July 2018. The deadline for submission of application is 05 August 2018.


New Applications for Applied Research and Development (R&D) Project Funding Support from EnergizeNepal Project are invited from Nepalese Research Institution (University, College, and other organization qualifying as a research institution) in partnership with Nepalese Energy Industry, and preferably also in partnership with Foreign Research Institution and Foreign Energy Industry, to conduct Applied R&D for industrial development in Nepal in the area of Renewable Energy. The proposed project duration shall be of two years to start from December 2018.

EnergizeNepal is a Project for supporting research based energy sector development in Nepal. It provides funding support to collaborative R&D projects related to renewable energy technology, planned and implemented by R&D institution in Nepal in cooperation with local industries and Norwegian institutions & industries. EnergizeNepal is managed by Kathmandu University (KU), Nepal, in partnership with Hydro Lab Pvt. Ltd. Nepal, NTNU Norway and SINTEF Energy Research (SEfAS), Norway. It is funded by ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA), Norway.

EnergizeNepal is open for participation by all Nepalese and Foreign Research Institutions and Industries on competitive equal opportunity basis within the Project Framework. The Principal Applicant shall be a Nepalese Research Institution, which applies for funding support from the Programme to implement a conceived R&D project with the partners. The Principal Applicant and the Partners shall refer to the Application Call Document and the Application Forms & General Terms and Conditions for preparing and submitting the application.

MoU signed between Kathmandu University and Mokpo National University, Korea

On 27 June 2018, MoU has been signed between the Turbine Testing Laboratory, Department of Mechanical Engineering, School of Engineering, Kathmandu University, Nepal and the Institute of New and Renewable Energy Technology Research, Mokpo National University, Mokpo (MNU), Korea for cooperation in the field of education and research and as a contribution to increased international co-operation.
The MoU was signed by Dr. Damber Nepali, Dean, School of Engineering, KU and Dr. Young-Do Choi, Institute of New and Renewable Energy Technology Research, MNU. This document was signed at KU first and was brought to MNU by Dr. Biraj Singh Thapa for the signature from the counterpart during his participation at the "2018 International Workshop on Renewable Energy Development” held at MNU on 26-28 June 2018.
The major objectives of the cooperation based on this MoU are:
1. The exchange of staff in programs to the mutual benefit of both institutions.
2. The exchange of students in programs to the mutual benefit of both institutions.
3. Collaboration in teaching, research and development and consultancy studies.
4. The exchange of academic materials and publications.
5. The provision of cultural and intellectual enrichment opportunities for staff and students of both institutions.

PhD defense by Mr. Sailesh Chitrakar

Mr. Sailesh Chitrakar gave his defense of the PhD dissertation at Norwegian University of Science and Technology on 27th June, 2018 successfully. This PhD is a joint degree between Kathmandu University (Mechanical Engineering Department) and Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU-Department of Energy and Process Engineering). The defense was also attended by his supervisor at KU, Prof. Hari Prasad Neopane. The candidate was supervised by Prof. Ole Gunnar Dahlhaug from NTNU. The candidate was assessed by following opponents:

· Professor Thomas Staubli, University of Lucerne, Switzerland

· Research Scientist Per Egil Skåre, DynaVec AS, Norway

· Professor emeritus Jan M. Øverli, NTNU

This PhD degree is the first joint degree conducted by School of Engineering, KU. According to this joint degree agreement (Cotutelle), the candidate spends half of the time at KU and half at NTNU during the course of PhD. The candidate gave the internal defense at DoME, KU on 19th March, 2018.
