Admission Open for the Certificate in Nursing Program

Applications are invited for the Certificate in Nursing Program for Academic Year: August 2013 from eligible candidates.


Eligibility for Admission:

1.      SLC- Minimum second division with Math, Science, and English or equivalent degree

2.      Pass in Entrance Examination and followed by Interview

The applicant must download the application form from www.dhulikhelhospital.org and completed application form along with the photocopies of the mark sheet and character certificate of S.L.C, citizenship certificate and  bank voucher worth NRs.500/- (non-refundable) of  Nepal Investment Bank, deposited in the name of KUSMS Saving Account Number: 005030017934 (cash is not acceptable) submit to the Dean's office, School of Medical Sciences, Dhulikhel Hospital, Dhulikhel during office days from 10:30 AM to 2:30 PM on or before July 19, 2013. Deposit can be made through any branches of Nepal Investment Bank.

 MEEPE-EnPe Fellowship Program


The students of Masters of Engineering in Electrical Power Engineering (batch 2011-13) under Energy and Petroleum (EnPe) Fellowship Program received their Provisional Certificate of Degree in the Fifth Graduation Ceremony organized by Kathmandu University (KU) on 2nd July 2013 at the C.V. Raman Auditorium, KU. Vice Chancellor of KU, Prof. Dr. Ram Kantha Makaju Shrestha, awarded the degrees to the students. On his congratulatory speech, he wished the graduating students a very successful future. He inspired to utilize their knowledge for the welfare of the community and gave guidance to the School of Engineering to bring out further more success stories. On this auspicious occasion, Founder Vice Chancellor of KU, Prof. Dr. Suresh Raj Sharma was the Chief Guest. Along with his recollections from KU-NTNU-NORAD cooperation, Prof. Sharma appreciated the significant contributions NTNU and NORAD had made for KU. He congratulated the graduating students and wished them bright future. Besides that, he also distributed momentos to the key contributors of MEEPE program. On this felicitation program, Mr. Brijesh Adhikary, the MEEPE program coordinator, briefed the short history and the future course of MEEPE program. Dr. Rita Kumar, Institutional Contact Person (ICP) from NTNU, congratulated and inspired the graduates. She highlighted on the success of KU – NTNU collaboration and the mutual benefits garnered by both the institutions. Mr. Halsten Aastebol, Senior Engineer and program coordinator from NTNU also expressed his satisfaction on the success of MEEPE and commitment of KU to continue it. Mr. Hitendra Dev Shakya, one of the distinguished alumni of MEEPE program, currently working as the Director at Nepal Electricity Authority shared his experiences as a student at KU and vowed his support for the success of the program in the future too. Finally, Prof. Dr. Bhola Thapa, the registrar of KU expressed his gratitude to every stakeholder bringing MEEPE program to its success and concluded his valedictory notes with commitment for enhancing the quality of education and research capability of KU.


In this program, Founder Registrar Prof. Dr. Sitaram Adhikary, KU dignitaries, Deans, Directors, Heads and Coordinators of various Departments, alumni, faculty, staff members of KU, MEEPE graduates and their families were also present. Asst. Prof. Diwakar Bhujel was the Master of Ceremony for this ceremony.


The Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering has also made recently a call for admission for its new cohort 2013-2015. Asst. Prof. Diwakar Bhujel has been appointed the new program coordinator for the new cohort.

Swimming Pool at Principal Campus, Dhulikhel

KU-Centre for Educational Design (CED) has demonstrated some drawing layout of Swimming Pool at the principal campus, Dhulikhel. The ground breaking ceremony has held on Wednesday 12 June, 2013. KU has been moving ahead with the motto of becoming student friendly university for its internationalization process. As per KU master plan, the pool will be an extra asset for attracting students at the University. Nepal Army personnel will cooperate for lands management of the area. It is expected to complete the construction of the pool within this year.

Professor Dr. Lubomic Bic from University of California Irvine, USA, visited Department of Computer Science and Engineering, Kathmandu University on June 25, 2013. Professor also delivered a guest lecture on “Self-migrating Computation”. Graduate students from Master of Engineering and Master of Technology including faculty members attended his lecture. Before presentation, he also had a discussion with faculty members of DoCSE regarding the research activities at DoCSE.

Interaction with Vicki Caravias, blended learning expert from Swinburne University, Melbourne, Australia

Vicki Caravias, blended learning expert from Swinburne University, Melbourne, Australia presented on “E-learning system, its opportunity and challenges and strategic plan: A case study of Swinburne University” in Department of Computer Science and Engineering (DoCSE) on June 27, 2013.

After presentation, there was an interaction with faculties for possible collaboration on mutual interest areas. Vicki has also shown interest to contribute in the E-learning center during her visit to Nepal in coming days.




Vicki Caravias has several years experience developing and transforming printed learning materials into eLearning resources. From 2002 through to 2012, Vicki Caravias has been an eLearning Coordinator for both Swinburne College and TAFE School of Engineering.

His Excellency Jayant Prasad Visited School of Arts

His Excellency Jayant Prasad, Ambassador of India to Nepal, paid a gracious visit to Kathmandu University, School of Arts, Hattiban, Lalitpur on 26 June 2013 to observe the site and discuss with the KU officials about proposed Mahatma Gandhi Studies Centre at KU.

Prof. Dr. Jangab Chauhan, Acting Dean and Head of Department of Languages and Mass Communication, School of Arts, welcomed the Ambassador and highlighted on the purpose of His Excellency's visit.



Addressing the program, Vice Chancellor of KU Prof. Dr. Ram Kantha Makaju Shrestha said that it would be the happiest moment for him when the Centre will come up with its full function. He assured that KU is committed to provide quality education and the proposed Gandhi Centre would be the Centre of Excellence in this regard. He anticipated that the Embassy will fix time frame for searching human and other resources.

Responding to the proposal, His Excellency Jayant Prasad expressed gratitude for the initiation taken by the University. His Excellency also appreciated satisfaction over KU's commitments, promising faculties and available resources. Adding further, he expressed his eagerness to see the Centre at KU disseminating the thoughts of Mahatma Gandhi to the global community.

Mr. Daman Nath Dhungana, Chairman of Board of Trustees of KU explained the significance of Gandhi's thoughts in social, cultural and political context. He added that the University will be indebted to the Government of India particularly the Indian Embassy of Kathmandu for supporting the Centre in the name of the 'Global Icon of Peace- Mahatma Gandhi'.

Founder Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Suresh Raj Sharma recalled earlier days when KU was launching several programs associated with the Lord Buddha and the Confucius of China.  He said, "Now, this is the high time to establish Mahatma Gandhi Studies Centre at KU where people can get opportunity to study about the great Leader of Peace in the world". Dr. Sharma expressed his trust that the opening of the centre would be a serious beginning.

Mr. Lochan Rijal played Sarangi to honour His Excellency, Mr. Hemraj Kafle presented introductory information about the School of Arts, Dr. Megh Raj Dangal extended vote of thanks and Ms. Ekku Maya Pun conducted the program.

The program was attended by KU officials, faculty members,  Mr. Piyush Srivastav and other distinguished guests from the Indian Embassy.

The program is conducted at School of Arts, Kathmandu University, Hattiban, Lalitpur. 
Duration: 4 years
Eligibility: 10+2 or equivalent degree in any discipline from a recognized institution with at least second division (45%) marks.


Application form, admission brochure and sample questions can be obtained after 7 July 2013 from School of Arts, Kathmandu University, Hattiban, Lalitpur (between 10 am to 3pm on working days), with a payment of Rs. 1000.00 (non-refundable). Interaction with Prof. Dr. Usha Rani Vyasulu Reddy

On 12th June, 2013, Department of Computer Science and Engineering, School of Engineering, Kathmandu University organized a talk program in which Prof. (Ms.) Usha Rani Vyasulu Reddy, Ph.D., an ICT for Development Consultant, UNAPCICT, delivered a talk on “Technology and Society- Young People as Change Makers” at Kathmandu University, Dhulikhel, Kavre, Nepal.


Prof. Reddy elaborated the nature of the ICT sector of Nepal and said that the economy of a country benefits from ICT in 2 ways:

      As producer (Sector itself generates growth, productivity and innovation)

      As ICT user (ICT use increases the efficiency of production processes)

She explained some real cases where youth have contributed to solve the problem of the society using ICT as a tool. These cases are:

·          Youth in Action: Small Farmers Rural Radio

·          Youth in Action:  Nahrani.com

·          Youth in Action:  NextDrop

·          Youth in Action:  Remote Patient Monitoring System

At the end of the program, Mr. Manoj Shakya, Department Coordinator gave vote of thanks and closing remarks saying that the program benefits the students and motivates them to contribute to the society. 

Interaction with Prof. Dr. Kedar Bhakta Mathema

Former Vice-Chancellor of Tribhuvan University, Prof. Dr. Kedar Bhakta Mathema visited Kathmandu University on June 14, 2013 for an interaction event held at mini-auditorium of Dept. of Computer Science and Engineering.  Both the students and faculty members from various departments attended the event.


During the event, he spoke about his career journey and experience - from being a teaching assistant in Trichandra Campus to becoming the Vice Chancellor of Tribhuvan University and his appointment as the Ambassador to Japan, South Korea, Australia and New Zealand. He also shared several valuable lessons that he has learned from his tenure while serving in different capacities during his career. He credited the importance of hard work, passion, respect for people and perseverance to his successful career.  Those in attendance also got an opportunity to interact with the speaker by putting forward several queries before the closing of the event.

Kathmandu University Technical Training Center (KUTTC) is an autonomous technical training Centre established to provide skill oriented training programs to under privileged youths.  

KUTTC will run short-term technical trainings on Automobile, Motorbike, Carpentry, Welding and Machining.

TTC invites Expressions of Interest from Kathmandu University's staff (permanent and contract staff) interested and eligible for the post of Instructors.

Prof. Dr. Bhola Thapa as New Registrar

Rt. Hon'ble Chairman of Council of Ministers and Chancellor Mr. Khil Raj Regmi has appointed Prof. Dr. Bhola Thapa as the Registrar of Kathmandu University on 15 June, 2013 for a period of four years. Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Ram Kantha Makaju Shrestha had recommended Prof. Thapa for the Registrar of the University as per Kathmandu University Act 1991.



Dr. Bhola Thapa is a Professor of Mechanical Engineering and has been serving as the Dean of School of Engineering since 2008.  He joined the University in 1994 as a Lecturer.

Registrar Prof. Dr. Bhadra Man Tuladhar had submitted his resignation from the post on 13 June, 2013. Dr. Tuladhar is one of the founder member along with other two members of the Kathmandu University.

We congratulate Prof. Dr. Thapa for his new responsibility

of the Registrar of Kathmandu University and

Dr. Sitaram Adhikari Awarded

Founder Registrar and Member of the Board of Trustee of Kathmandu University Dr. Sitaram Adhikari has been honoured as Hom-Totra Education Award, 2070. Dr. Suresh Raj Sharma, the Founder Vice-chancellor and Dr. Ramkantha Makaju Shrestha, the present Vice-chancellor of Kathmandu University jointly honoured him at C.V. Raman Auditorium of University on the program conducted by Shabdayatra Prakashan at Jestha 31. In the program, he was also awarded by Subhash Smriti Pratisthan and Chhetri Samaj Nepal. Prevoius year, this award was given to Mrs. Angurbaba Joshi.

In the same program, Mr. Ganesh Bahadur Khatri, member of the management committee of Kathmandu Valley Campus, also known as primary form of Kathmandu University, was honoured with Sharada Bal Sahitya Award 2070. Previous year, this award had been given to Mr. Shyam Das Baishnav.
