Dr. Pyakurel Gets a Paper Published in EBHR

Dr. Uddhab Pyakurel, Assistant Professor at School of Arts, KU, got a research paper entitled "Migration Governance in the Context of Nepal’s Labour Migration to the Gulf Countries" published in the EUROPEAN BULLETIN OF HIMALAYAN RESEARCH (EBHR) (Vol 48, Winter 2016).

The paper engages with the current global discussion and literature on migration management and migration governance, and assesses how this involvement is perceived by labour migrants and those who aspire to work abroad as labourers.

Since there has been a significant increase of labour migration to the Gulf States over recent years, the focus of the discussion is on Nepalese labour migrants and those Nepalese who aspire to work as labourers in the Gulf countries.

Dr. Bisht Got a Research Paper Published

Dr. Gunjan Bisht, Assistant Professor of Department of Chemical Science and Engineering, got a paper entitled “Supercritical Carbon Dioxide Assisted Synthesis of Stimuli-Responsive Magnetic Poly(N-Isopropylacrylamide)-Ferrite Biocompatible Nanocomposites for Targeted and Controlled Drug Delivery” publiished in International Journal of Polymeric Materials and Polymeric Biomaterials (Taylor & Francis online), a peer-reviewed SCIE indexed journal.

This paper deals with the synthesis of Poly (N-Isopropyl acrylamide)-Ferrite nanocomposites(PNCs) using supercritical fluid technology and study on its drug loading and release activity for targeted and controlled drug delivery.

AEC announces National River Summit- 2017

In partnership with the National River Conservation Trust (NRCT), Aquatic Ecology Centre of School of Science, Kathmandu University successfully hosted the first ever river summit in Nepal in the bank of Sunkoshi River. The first summit brought more than 200 participants representing scientific community, policymakers, students and activists and farmers and fishermen. The summit highlighted pertinent issues related with rivers and advocated for their sustainable use and management. The summit brought out a 15-point Sunkoshi Declaration which was submitted to the parliamentarians before the country’s new constitution was promulgated in 2015.

The second river summit will be organized on March on the banks of the Trishuli River. It aims to bring wide range of stakeholders to discuss challenges and sustainable use of rivers. The deliberations will identify approaches for better management of river water in Nepal.

Nepal is going to federal systems and the issues of rivers, most of which are transboundary on federal states that will need strategies to resolve disputes. In tourism section, not many people know, Nepal the World's best whitewater rafting and Kayaking destination but may not remain for that long if we would not take the initiation to conserve the Nepal’s river. Therefore, the second National River Summit will also highlight these issues and aim to improve understanding around it.

As a post summit activity, there will be elevan days long rafting in the river Karnali from Upper Karnali dam site to Chisapani.

RDC announces Research Grants for Thesis to Graduate Students

Kathmandu University, through its Research, Development and Consultancy Directorate, will identify, select and award Rs. 50,000/- (Rupees Fifty Thousand only) financial support to the Masters’ level students for their water governance related thesis works  through agreement with HELVETAS Nepal for the academic year 2017.


Any students interested along with their Supervisor(s) are informed to express willingness to apply for funding to the address below no later than 13 Feb 2017.
