Prof. Dr. Ram Kantha Makaju Shrestha, the Vice Chancellor, welcomed His Excellency Mr.  Park Young-sik, the Korean Ambassador to Nepal. In a meeting held in Kathmandu, Prof. Dr. Shrestha and Mr. Young-sik, discussed the ongoing and possible collaborations between the Embassy of the Republic of Korea and Kathmandu University.

Invitation for PhD Application

 

The department invites applications for admission to Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) program in the field of Environmental Science. One seat is available for the research which focuses on aquatic resources utilization and pollution effects due to natural and anthropogenic activities. The study will be conducted in two wetlands (lake Phewa and Kulekhani) and will start from June 2017. The selected PhD candidate will take part in the project activities of a UGC-Nepal funded collaborative research project.


Brief information of the research project:

The study will focus on the resource allocation and distribution of aquaculture in Lake Phewa and Kulekhani reservoir; quantification of sedimentation due to agriculture and natural processes; physiochemical characterization of these wetlands to relate with environmental degradation. The main goal of the research is to gain a holistic scenario of the linkages among resource utilization, environmental pollution and degradation so as to contribute for sustainable management of water resources.


Eligibility:

The candidate must have completed a minimum of 17 years of formal study in relevant field. The candidate with 16 years of formal study may also be eligible if he/she possesses additional relevant degree or courses. Deadline for application submission:  May 27, 2017 (Submit a brief concept note, CV and scanned copies of academic certificates).


Duration of the study: Three years

University Officials Grace KMC Annual Function

The University Officials attended the annual function of Kathmandu Medical College (KMC) held at the Nepal Academy Hall in Kathmandu. Speaking as the Chief Guest to a gathering of medical professionals, college family and representatives of different professional organizations, Prof. Dr. Ram Kantha Makaju Shrestha, the Vice Chancellor, emphasized that with KMC as a big family of committed professionals, the University has achieved a satisfactory expansion.

The Vice Chancellor further recalled the humanitarian works done by faculties, staffs and students of KU and KMC after the devastating earthquake of April 2015. He highlighted the fact that KU, with its affiliated institutions including KMC, has created opportunities of jobs and scholarships benefiting thousands of individuals. He also advised the students, young faculties and practitioners to take the medical profession as a religion and their workplace as a place of worship.

The Vice Chancellor Participates in All India Vice Chacellors' Conference

Prof. Dr. Ram Kantha Makaju Shrestha, the Vice Chancellor, participated in the All India Vice Chancellors' Conference held in Osmania University, Hyderabad, India, during 27-28 April 2017.

The Conference, based on the broad theme "Perspectives on Faculty, Funding and Freedom," was organized in collaboration with the Association of Indian Universities (AIU) and Telangana State Council for Higher Education (TSCHE) to commemorate the Centenary Celebrations of Osmania University. 

More than two hundred university Vice Chancellors from India and abroad attended the two-day Conference.

As an Associate Member since 1996, Kathmandu University has been a part of AIU's various programs, including the hosting of the prestigious South Asian Universities Youth Festival (SAUFEST) in February 2008.

Dr. Adhikari Appointed as an Expert to NRA

Dr. Bikash Adhikari, Lecturer at the Department of Environmental Science and Engineering, Kathmandu University, has been appointed as  a member of environmental assessment review committee at National Reconstruction Authority (NRA) chaired by the Prime Minister.
